A detective has been injured after allegedly being struck by a car while trying to arrest a wanted man outside a Port Macquarie motel.

Police said mid-north coast officers attended the Kemp Street motel about 8am on Tuesday looking for the man wanted on outstanding warrants.

As they arrived, police saw the wanted man and a woman getting into a vehicle.

“Officers attempted to arrest the man before a detective senior constable was struck by the vehicle,’’ police said in a statement.

“The man fled on foot, while the female driver was arrested at the scene.’’

The officer was treated on scene for injuries to his torso and limbs and did not need hospital treatment.

Police established a perimeter as members of the dog squad and highway patrol started an extensive search for the man but he could not be found.

The woman, 24, was taken to Port Macquarie police station and charged with several offences including using a weapon to avoid apprehension and assaulting police.

She was refused bail to appear in Port Macquarie Local Court on Tuesday.

The hunt for the man continues.
