A man charged with murdering a young mother had allegedly been drinking heavily throughout the day, before an argument that saw her suffer a serious head injury and left dead on her apartment floor.

Dayna Isaac, 28, was allegedly left bloodied and suffering a serious head injury on the floor of her Penrith home after being murdered by her drunk boyfriend Paul Jason Sultana, 32, on Monday afternoon.

The discovery of Ms Issac’s body by the mother of her new boyfriend sparked an 11-hour manhunt that ended with Sultana being arrested in the early hours of Tuesday at his home in nearby Cranebrook.

Cranebrook is tragically the same suburb where in a completely unrelated case, another woman, Danniele Finlay-Jones, was found dead in her bed last month, allegedly at the hands of a man she met via a dating app.

The Daily Telegraph understands police believe Ms Isaac - a mother-of-two young girls - died as a result of a head injury, after an argument with Sultana who had allegedly spent much of the day drinking.

Sultana, 32, spent much of Tuesday in isolation at Penrith Police Station before being questioned in the late afternoon and then charged with murder.

He spent the night in custody and is due to face Penrith Local Court on Wednesday.

Police sources said the pair had known each other for four years but only began dating in recent months, spending a large amount of time together at the mother-of-two’s apartment.

It is understood police will allege Ms Isaac’s body may have been lying in her unit for as many as three hours before it was discovered by Sultana’s mother about 4pm.

Sultana’s mother went to nearby Penrith Police Station to raise the alarm.

NSW Police Acting Superintendent Carlene Mahoney described the incident as a “tragedy” between two “friends”, turned lovers.

“It was a long relationship as a friendship and just recently became more intimate over the last couple of months,” she said.

The Daily Telegraph understands initial investigations by police have suggested Ms Isaac was assaulted and it is not believed a weapon of any sort was involved.

Police sources said neighbours reportedly called about a disturbance on Monday afternoon but, by the time officers arrived – just before 3pm – there appeared to be no one home.

Acting police superintendent Carlene Mahoney said Sultana and Ms Isaac had “a long relationship as a friendship and just recently became more intimate over the last couple of months.

“Neighbours said they thought they might have since gone out and when no one answered, the police left as you would expect,” a source said.

Act Supt Mahoney confirmed police had attended Ms Isaac’s address not long before her body was found.

“Police were informed that there was a disturbance at the premises and they did attend and they later identified that the deceased was at the premises,” she said.

About 45 minutes later Ms Isaac’s car would be found ablaze in bushland near Post Office Rd in Castlereagh.

Act Supt Mahoney said intelligence led police to Sultana’s home about 3.25am on Tuesday where armed Tactical Operations Unit (TOU) officers took him into custody.

She said there had been no reports of incidents between Sultana and Ms Isaac.

“The police are supporting the family, obviously it’s very traumatic and we will be involved with them and providing them with support during this tragedy,” Act Supt Mahoney said.

The large apartment complex where Ms Isaac lived remained taped off by police throughout Tuesday.

Forensic officers dusted for fingerprints on a glass entrance to the underground carpark.

But one local said the news of the death had left them considering whether they should stay at the address.

“I want to move, I don’t want to live here any more,” one neighbour said.

Ms Isaac had previously been married and had two young girls, neither of whom were home at the time of the incident.

Shattered friends told how she had a “heart of gold” and cared enormously for her children.

“She was a beautiful woman, a much loved mother with a heart of gold … she was my best friend,” the friend, who did not want to be named, said.

Sultana is understood to have lived alone at the Cranebrook home where he was arrested.

The front yard of the property is scattered with trailers, rusty boats and various bits of machinery.

As detectives searched throughout the home on Tuesday, a small dog could be seen sitting in the front window of the house.
