A mother who police allege ran over her daughter and dragged her 100 metres while drink-driving has been slapped with restrictions from seeing her daughter.
Caringbah mother Dale Palmer, 58, was on Sunday charged after allegedly getting behind the wheel of a Toyota Starlet about 12.40am near her home on Gillham St following her son’s 21st birthday party.
Police allege her car then allegedly struck her 27-year-old daughter Keely Palmer and dragged her for 100m.
Emergency service officers arrived to find the young woman trapped beneath the car and worked for more than an hour to free her. She was taken to St George Hospital, where she remains in a serious condition with injuries to her right leg and arm.
Police on Sunday applied for an apprehended violence order (AVO) against Ms Palmer preventing her from assaulting or stalking her and seeing her daughter for at least 12 hours after taking alcohol or drugs.
The matter will be heard before Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday.
It comes as police continue to investigate the circumstances behind the incident, with Police Chief Inspector Gary Ford saying it was still unclear how the driver of the car came to hit Keely.
“The circumstances surrounding what happened are still being investigated,” he said.
Neighbours have told The Daily Telegraph the family was celebrating the 21st birthday of Keely’s brother Kyle at their family home in the hours before the incident.
Ms Palmer on Sunday walked out of Sutherland Police Station, where she was granted bail.
One neighbour, who wished to be known only as Ryan, said he heard music blasting at the property but did not hear any conflict.
“They were playing music all night. I woke up at 2.30am and saw cops out the front,” Ryan said.
“I always see the bloke out the front gardening and the kids always go out on the boat … They seem like a nice family.”
