Mum charged after daughter Keely Palmer dragged 100m under car

A mother has been charged after allegedly drinking to three times the legal limit and trapping her 27-year-old daughter under her car for an hour.

A woman has been charged with running down her daughter and dragging her for 100m while driving with a blood-alcohol level three times the legal limit in Sydney’s south.

Caringbah mother Dale Palmer, 58, allegedly got behind the wheel of a Toyota Starlet about 12.40am on Sunday near her home on Gillham St following her son’s 21st birthday bash.

Her car then allegedly struck her 27-year-old daughter Keely Palmer and dragged her for 100m.

Emergency service officers arrived to find the young woman trapped beneath the car and worked for more than an hour to free her.

She was then transported to St George Hospital in a serious condition with injuries to her right leg and arm.

Palmer was taken to Sutherland Police Station, where she returned an alleged breath analysis reading of .166 and was later charged with aggravated dangerous driving and high-range drink driving.

She was granted conditional bail to appear in Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday.

Police Chief Inspector Gary Ford said it was not yet clear how the mother came to hit her daughter.

“There was a family gathering at the mother’s house and an incident occurred in a street outside a driveway,” Insp Ford said.

“The circumstances surrounding what happened are still being investigated.

“The 27-year-old woman is not well enough to be spoken to at this time. She was trapped underneath that vehicle for a little over an hour before emergency services were able to free her.”

Other family members will be interviewed by detectives in the coming days.

Neighbours have told The Daily Telegraph the family was celebrating the 21st birthday of Keely’s brother Kyle at their family home in the hours before the incident.

One neighbour, who wished to be known only as Ryan, said he heard music blasting at the property but did not hear any conflict.

“They were playing music all night. I woke up at 2.30am and saw cops out the front,” Ryan said.

“I always see the bloke out the front gardening and the kids always go out on the boat. The woman may have been dropping the kids off and then came back. They seem like a nice family.”

Palmer left the police station about 2.30pm yesterday where she was collected by a male and female.
