A man who allegedly shot a gun twice into the air during an argument with another man while children were seated in nearby cars has been arrested after a search in swampland on the state’s north coast.

A man has been hit with a string of charges after he allegedly shot a gun twice into the air during an argument with another man while children were seated in nearby cars on the state’s mid-north coast.
The 62-year-old man had stopped an SUV on Harrington Rd, Coopernook about 5.50pm on Friday where he met a 38-year-old man known to him.
Police were told the men were arguing when the 62-year-old allegedly fired a sawn-off firearm twice into the air.
The armed man drove away from the scene in the SUV, which had a three-year-old child in the rear passenger seat.
The 38-year-old and his nine-year-old passenger were uninjured during the alleged incident.
Police were notified and after inquiries, a search was undertaken in swampland in Harrington where a sawn-off rifle was located and seized for forensic examination.
About 2.15pm, the older man was arrested at a boat ramp in Harrington and taken to Taree police station.
He was charged with firing a gun in a public place; possessing shortened firearm; possess unregistered firearm; not keep firearm safely; acquire firearm part without authority to do so and domestic-related stalking or intimidating intend fear physical harm.
The man was refused bail and is expected to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.
