The security guard who found Brittany Higgins in Parliament House, the first person to see her after she was allegedly raped, has told a jury of the moment she entered the darkened office.

Prosecutors claim Liberal staffer, Bruce Lehrmann, had sexual intercourse with Ms Higgins, without her consent and being reckless to her consent, on 23 March 2019 after a night of drinking.

Lehrmann pleaded not guilty, saying he was not intimate with Ms Higgins in the office of then-Minister Linda Reynolds after they entered just before 2am that evening.

Security guard Nikola Anderson, appearing in court on Tuesday, told the jury she was ordered to do a “welfare check” on Ms Higgins after Lehrmann left Parliament on his own about 20 minutes later.

Ms Anderson told the jury she entered the minister’s suite just after 4am, knocking and calling out “security, hello” into the darkened office.

“I think the air from the door has made noise or whatnot. She’s opened her eyes, she’s looked at me, and then she’s proceeded to roll over into the foetal position, facing the desk,” Ms Anderson said.

The guard told the court Ms Higgins was completely naked, her dress perhaps on the floor next to the lounge in Ms Reynolds’ office.

“I believe the dress Ms Higgins was wearing was on the floor next to her ... I know for a fact she was completely naked,” Ms Anderson said.

The guard told the court she contacted her bosses.

Ms Higgins left Parliament House after awaking the next day, CCTV shows.

The report triggered a series of meetings which culminated in Lehrmann losing his job for the “security breach” of accessing the office after hours, the jury has heard.

Ms Higgins told the court she first claimed she had been raped in the meeting with her boss in the days that followed.
