Comanchero Tarek Zahed riddled with bullets fighting charges from hospital bed

Bullet-ridden bikie Tarek Zahed was fighting for life after an assassination claimed his brother’s life. Now he’s fighting charges from his hospital bed.

The War episode 1: Streets on Fire

Bullet-ridden bikie Tarek Zahed is accused of breaching crime prevention orders but has vowed to fight the charges from a hospital bed, where he remains weeks after narrowly surviving an underworld assassination attempt that claimed the life of his brother.

Zahed, 41, stunned doctors with his miraculous survival after 10 bullets ripped through his body, including his eye and limbs, when unknown hitmen opened fire on the Commanchero and his brother, Omar, on May 10.

Omar Zahed died on the floor of the Auburn gym while Tarek’s life hung in the balance.

But the colourful “Balenciaga Bikie” pulled through and regained consciousness, despite potentially losing limbs.

Before the fatal shooting, Zahed had been accused of breaching a serious crime prevention order.

There was little surprise at the Downing Centre Local Court, on Wednesday, when Zahed did not appear in court.

But the court heard his solicitor had sent an email pleading not guilty to two counts of breaching the serious crime prevention order.

A serious crime prevention order, made by the NSW Supreme Court in December 2021, locked Zahed out of NSW and required him to advise police of his movements and associations because they feared he may oversee violent attacks on behalf of his own OMCG.

The judge, granting the order in December 2021, told the court she was satisfied that Zahed’s seniority in the Comancheros means he could sanction “serious offences of violence on behalf of the OMCG” or could help the club cover up crimes by destroying evidence or influencing witnesses.

“(Zahed’s) longstanding association with and involvement in the Comanchero OMCG, his seniority within the group and his lengthy history of violent offending leads me to conclude that he is likely to continue to be involved in serious criminal activity,” the judge said.

The Local Court has not heard exactly what Zahed is alleged to have done in order to breach the order.

The matter will return to court on August 10.
