‘Coke a la carte’: Self-styled illegal drugs connoisseur runs out of luck

He’s the Sydney drug dealer who sent his clients a menu of narcotics and made recommendations of pairings, just like a restaurant sommelier.

NSW cocaine hot spots revealed

Ahmad Alhasan had a nose for cocaine, and a long list of other drugs.

That’s why the Pyrmont man, who ran a drug pick up and delivery service from his apartment, confidently gave recommendations to his customers about which narcotics were best paired together.

Just like a restaurant sommelier matching a medium bodied chianti with a Tuskan tasting plate, the 38-year-old sent his buyers similar “pairing” advice via text message on a list he called “The menu”.

In July 2021, he sent a text offering a wide array of illegal products, highlighting the regions the drugs originated from, the weights in which he sold them and the prices he charged.

He offered a selection of cocaine variants under a section called “Coke A la carte”, which noted that the “dose” of “all coke bags” was “0.5-0.6g” and listed the price.

This included “Colombian coke ($400)”, “Peruvian ($500)” and “Mexican snow ($800), which was “grey not bleached”. The blue ribbon selection included “Brown coke” that cost $1000 for half a gram.

Alhasan noted in the text that it was a “perfect combo with Kamagra”, which is an erectile dysfunction drug similar to Viagra.

For “MDMA and party lovers” he had “caps or bags or both” from “France and Germany”. It also came in “powder form” that was “not pressed”.

He also offered two types of ketamine (“ketaset” or “Special K”) or “Brazilian cubenis shrooms”.

For “weed” lovers, Alhasan had on offer “Dutch sweet indica” or “Adelaide red haze” – both for $50. Ritalin was $50 per dose.

Alhasan also noted that “body juices and pharma is available” but wrote that “pick up is required” for that option.

Despite his vast array of drugs on offer to his customers, Alhasan avoided jail in the Downing Centre Local Court last Thursday after Magistrate Glenn Bartley sentenced him to a two year intensive corrections order.

Alhasan’s defence lawyer Pasquale Centraco told Mr Bartley that his client’s role in the operation was “nothing more than a user-dealer”.

Mr Centraco also told the court his client was selling the drugs to support his own addiction, which had “developed as a result of his physical and mental health issues”.

Alhasan’s physical and mental health issues had been aggravated by the fact that he suffered from a skin condition, known as scleroderma, which was so severe, he suffered from paralysis, Mr Centraco told the court.

After hearing the submissions, Mr Bartley told the court “I’m not thinking jail” in terms of Alhasan’s punishment.

The prosecuting solicitor did not oppose Alhasan avoiding jail. Alhasan pleaded guilty to seven counts of supplying drugs, including cocaine, MDMA, ketamine and cannabis. He also pleaded guilty to ongoing drug supply for financial reward.

Mr Bartley sentenced Alhasan to five months jail for two of the charges but the court heard he had already served that time on remand while waiting for his case to be heard.

According to documents tendered in the case, Alhasan was targeted by police in Strike Force Bole, which intercepted calls he made offering drugs to people.

On May 19, 2022, police raided his apartment on Wattle Cr, Pyrmont, and found a cache of drugs.

Police searched his phone during the raid and found numerous text messages arranging drug sales, including the one with his drug menu.
