Emergency crews have descended on a street at Toongabbie after a car struck a child on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency services responded to reports of a pedestrian hit by a car on Octavia St about 4.45pm.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a five-year-old boy at the scene. He was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a serious but stable condition.
The driver – a 36-year-old man – was uninjured.
Cumberland police have started an investigation and established a crime scene.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
Police said no further information was available at this stage.
As inquiries continue police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident – or were in the area at the time with any available dashcam/mobile phone footage – to contact Cumberland police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
