Emergency crews have descended on a street at Toongabbie after a car struck a child on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency services responded to reports of a pedestrian hit by a car on Octavia St about 4.45pm.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a five-year-old boy at the scene. He was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a serious but stable condition.
The driver – a 36-year-old man – was uninjured.
Cumberland police have started an investigation and established a crime scene.
Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
Police said no further information was available at this stage.
