The relative of alleged Sydney drug lord Mostafa Baluch has been shot in the legs and admitted himself to hospital just before noon on Thursday.
Imran Baluch, a 26-year-old from the western suburbs, is yet to be interviewed at length by detectives over where or who may have shot him.
For a short time, Mostafa Baluch, 35, was one of Australia’s most wanted men after he is alleged to have cut his ankle bracelet after his parents had put up their Sydney mansion as bail.
Mostafa Baluch had been granted bail for allegedly being a major player in an attempt to import 900 kilograms of cocaine into Australia, worth an estimated $270m.
His relative is not involved in the alleged importation or charged with any offence.
“Shortly after 11.35am a 26-year-old man presented himself to Westmead hospital suffering gunshot wounds,’’ police said in a statement.
“He was admitted to hospital for treatment where he remains in a stable condition.”
Detectives from NSW State Crime Command’s Raptor and Criminal Group squads are now investigating how Imran Baluch was shot.
The Baluch family are well known restaurateurs who have been operating on the northern beaches for decades.
After cutting off his ankle bracelet 36-year-old Mostafa Baluch was caught on the Gold Coast hiding in a Mercedes Benz being transported inside a shipping container on the back of a truck.
In an unrelated incident, police are investigating a drive-by shooting at Pioneer Road at Currans Hill in Sydney’s southwest at 1.30am on Thursday.
Neighbours reported the shots and police have now established a crime scene in the street where its believed the shooting took place.
