The boss of a famous Kings Cross strip club has died after a suspected drug overdose while celebrating her 39th birthday, with police now awaiting the results of a toxicology test.

Police are working to confirm exactly how Show Girls licensee Rebecca Harrison died last month, after she went to bed following a party at the venue and didn’t wake up.

A toxicology report will reveal which, if any, drugs she had taken and whether they had been cut with other substances.

Police said the cause of Ms Harrison’s death would be a matter for the coroner.

Ms Harrison’s sister Joanne Roe announced the shock death on social media, saying the details of how she died remained unclear.

“Yesterday I had two policemen turn up on my doorstep. They had come to inform me that my little sister Rebecca Harrison had passed away,” Ms Roe wrote.

“Obviously we are absolutely devastated with this news and in complete shock. We don’t know the details, but I just wanted to share on here so people that knew Rebecca would know what had happened.”

Colleague and best friend Hannah Extance described Ms Harrison as her “work wife” and her “ride or die”.

“To be in your presence was a gift. You came to Australia made it your home and made everyone around you feel like it was home … you have gone too soon,” Ms Extance wrote.

A friend and former colleague told The Daily Telegraph “everyone in the Cross knew ‘Bex’”.

Ms Harrison worked as a waitress at the DreamGirls club until it was raided and shut down in 2016. She then moved to Show Girls where she worked her way up to become the licensee.

“It’s rocked a lot of people … she partied hard, but no one expected something like this to happen to our Bex,” a friend said. “One minute we are all wishing her a happy birthday, the next we are writing RIP – like, how?

“We all saw her a few weeks ago at the DreamGirls reunion she organised … she was the centre of fun, she loved people and loved having fun.”

Show Girls on Darlinghurst Rd touts itself as a “hotbed of nightclub music and lap dancers”. “Every night Show Girls brings the most beautiful women from around Australia to our exquisite club,” the club’s website states.

Ms Harrison’s sister is expected to fly to Sydney from the UK in January for the cremation.
