A man who has “no recollection” of drunkenly damaging two luxury cars in Sydney’s east has been ordered to pay nearly $50,000 in compensation after being busted by a dashcam.

Shane Partridge, 57, faced Waverley Local Court on Tuesday, when he was convicted of destroying or damaging property and sentenced to a two-and-a-half-year community correction order.

Documents tendered to the court state dashcam footage from a parked Porsche detected Partridge approaching the vehicle on Oxford St, in Bondi Junction, about 7.47pm on Anzac Day.

The footage showed Partridge initially leaning on the driver’s side of another vehicle — a grey Audi — which had been loaned out to a person at the time by Audi Centre Sydney.

Partridge was then seen reaching over and ripping the right windscreen wiper off the Audi.

The dashcam footage subsequently captured him moving to the bonnet of the black Porsche and reaching into his pocket.

Partridge pulled out an unknown object and used it to scratch the bonnet multiple times.

From there, Partridge was filmed moving to the driver’s side and continuing to scratch up the Porsche, moving to the rear and eventually back to the car’s bonnet.

By 7.55pm, having finally finished his destructive act, Partridge ambled onto the footpath and walked off to the north.

Court documents state Partridge was identified by a friend of the Porsche’s owner, with police later confirming the Bondi local’s appearance matched footage of the incident.

Partridge confirmed with police that on the night of the incident, he had been to licensed venues on Oxford St and the Domino’s Bondi Junction outlet on the same street.

In court on Tuesday, Partridge maintained he did not remember damaging either of the cars.

“I have no recollection of the incident at all,” he said.

“I do not remember it at all and then finding out there was CCTV of it, there’s no denying it at all.”

Magistrate Jacqueline Milledge slammed Partridge’s actions, telling the Bondi local she was “unimpressed”.

“I just don’t understand how being drunk turns you into a criminal,” she said.

“You must have been out with some wonderful mates if they let you do that … that’s shameful, absolutely shameful.”

Partridge’s lawyer argued his client was remorseful and said the 57-year-old appeared to have got his life back on track after earlier offending.

“His last offending was in 1998 and he put his life back together, and alcohol seems to have been the issue,” his lawyer said.

“He’s changed his ways. One day drink with his mate and he’s destroyed a car … he feels like a piece of work when he thinks back to what he did to someone else’s property.”

On top of the community correction order, Ms Milledge ordered Partridge to pay $47,782.42 in compensation to the Porsche owner.
