A magistrate has branded a young drug dealer a “dishonest thief” and an “idiot” after the teenager was caught sliding cocaine in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Maisam Awaz, from Stanhope Gardens on the opposite side of the city, faced Waverley Local Court on Tuesday, when he pleaded guilty to indictable drug supply and dealing with the proceeds of crime.

Documents tendered to the court state police were patrolling around Bondi about 8.40pm on August 2, when they noticed a man acting suspiciously near The Royal Bondi Hotel.

Police watched the man walk down Denham St.

Awaz’s Kia sedan eventually pulled up beside the man, who jumped inside.

Documents state after 20 seconds, the man hopped out of Awaz’s car and headed back to the hotel.

Police stopped the man and found him carrying a resealable bag containing a white substance.

The man then revealed text messages, showing Awaz, 19, had charged him $300 for 1g of cocaine.

Court documents state police pulled Awaz, a retail worker, over and searched his car, finding a Chupa Chups container with $7600 inside.

Police also found $300, a black iPhone and eight resealable bags containing a white powder, which was later confirmed to be more than 7g of cocaine.

In court on Tuesday, magistrate Michael Barko blasted Awaz and lectured him about his criminal conduct.

“With respect, you’re an idiot,” Mr Barko said.

“You’re facing jail. You all think you’re such gangsters.

“He best bring his toothbrush (when he is sentenced).”

Mr Barko called Awaz “lazy” and lamented that people his age saw supplying drugs as a way to “make some quick cash”.

“You young people in particular are just lazy,” he said.

“Can’t do a decent hard living (so) you’ve got to go make some quick cash with some other gangster.”

Mr Barko also bet the gram of cocaine Awaz sold would have been less, making him a “dishonest thief”.

The offender’s bail was continued ahead of his sentencing on October 23.

Awaz is one of four men charged during a two-night police blitz in the eastern suburbs in August.

He is yet to enter pleas and will return to court later this month.
