Ashcroft: Man accused of fleeing police in high-speed chase across southwest Sydney

A driver accused of abandoning his car and fleeing police was discovered at a nearby property following a high-speed pursuit in Sydney’s southwest.

A driver accused of abandoning his car and fleeing police was discovered at a nearby property following a high-speed pursuit in Sydney’s southwest.

Police were patrolling Maxwells Ave, Ashcroft on Friday afternoon when they detected a Toyota Corolla allegedly speeding.

Officers launched a pursuit after the driver failed to stop their vehicle despite police activating their warning lights.

Police will allege in court the vehicle continued travelling in excess of the sign posted 50km/h speed limit on multiple residential streets in Sadleir, Ashcroft, Busby, Heckenberg, Miller, Cartwright and Mount Pritchard.

The driver abandoned the vehicle on Verona Ave, Mount Pritchard and allegedly attempted to run from the scene, before being arrested in a nearby property.

The 40-year-old was taken to Liverpool Police Station and charged with police pursuit not stopping driving dangerously, class A motor vehicle exceed speed greater than 45 km/h, enter enclosed land without lawful excuse, possess prohibited drug and not stop vehicle when directed.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Saturday August 17.
