ANOM encrypted app claims another alleged crime figure

A man who is charged with smuggling more than 55 kgs of cocaine worth an estimated $25 million into Australia is among the latest alleged organised crime figures arrested after police claim they used the secret Trojan horse encrypted app AN0M.

Zekrullah Adib, 24, of Regents Park has been refused bail at Central Local Court after his arrest on December 13 along with another seven Sydney men alleged to be involved in drugs and dealing with the proceeds of crime,

The arrests came as part of the latest nat­ionally co-ordinated strike against organised crime by Operation Ironside which involved NSW Police, Australian Federal Police and the NSW Crime Commission.

The AFP on Tuesday issued a stocktake on the unprecedented operation carried out in conjunction with the American FBI and Canadian Mountd Police which crooks thought was secure.

They revealed that so far the country’s biggest underworld investigation had arrested 340 alleged offenders who have been charged with 1011 offences. More than 6.3 tonnes of drugs have been seized, along with 141 weapons.

They include 89 people arrested in NSW, charged with 279 offences while more than 1.8 tonnes of drugs have been seized, along with 48 weapons.

Not all those arrested can be named because the identities of some are covered by suppression orders and investigations are ongoing.

The AFP has warned that they have identified another 160 targets around Australia including bikies, Italian organised crime, drug dealers an trusted insiders including lawyers.

Adib was arrested after NSW Police Organised Crime Squad detectives – together with the NSW Crime Commission – identified several cocaine importations which were allegedly facilitated using the encrypted device this year.

He faces six charges including possessing cocaine, proceeds of crime less than $100,000 and four counts of importing a commercial quantity of cocaine. He was refused bail at Central Local Court to appear at Parramatta Local Court on February 18.
