The newest boss of the Comanchero bikie gang in NSW has had his home searched by police, just two days after boasting on social media about his appointment.
Allan Meehan, a former Rebel, is now called the Commander of the Sydney Chapter of the Comanchero – which effectively means he is the new state president.
Meehan, 34, posted a photo on his Instagram account on Monday of his vest emblazoned with his new title. He also posted: “U cant see the eyes of the demon, until him come a callin.”
But that move backfired somewhat when NSW Police officers knocked on the door of his Yerrinbool home on Wednesday morning with Detective Superintendent Grant Taylor, Criminal Groups Squad Commander, warning Meehan would continue to be targeted like other Comanchero who came before him.
“He assumed the role of the Commander of the ACT Comanchero OMCG over the last number of years and has now declared himself in charge of the Comanchero in NSW,” Det Supt Taylor said.
“So whenever you’re involving yourself in the hierarchical structure of an outlaw motorcycle gang — when it is clear that law enforcement around the world has clearly demonstrated the intrinsic link between OMCGs and organised crime — and you want to publicly declare that you’re in charge of that outlaw motorcycle gang in a particular area or state of Australia, well you can expect to get a lot of attention from law enforcement.”
Until his so-called promotion two days ago, Meehan was the president of the Canberra Chapter of the declared Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.
Before that he was a member of the much larger Rebels bikie gang and was the Cronulla chapter president, before patching over to the “Comos”.
A number of bikie sources say Meehan will be doing the bidding of self-declared National Commander Mark Buddle, who is rumoured to have moved from Lebanon to Cyprus.
Buddle has spent the last few months moving around after the FBI and Australian Federal Police infiltrated the gang’s preferred encrypted phone network, known as AN0M.
The firearm prohibition order search of Meehan’s address on Wednesday comes as part of a national week of action by police.
The Comanchero gang has been under particular scrutiny this year off the back of Operation Ironside, which targeted the compromised AN0M messenger app.
Some senior bikies have been arrested and charged, while others such as Buddle’s loyal national sergeant at arms, Tarek Zahed, left Australia, opening the door for Meehan’s ascent.
Meehan was not charged in Wednesday’s raid or over Operation Ironside.
