Police are investigating whether historical links between the father of little AJ Elfalak and the Bandidos outlaw motorcycle gang had anything to do with the disappearance of his son.

While there is no suggestion Anthony Elfalak was involved in AJ’s disappearance, police are exploring several lines of inquiry.

In 2011, Mr Elfalak lost an appeal in the Admistrative Appeals Tribinal to win back a firearms licence after he was convicted of failing to notify police of a change of residential address.

The tribunal upheld the police decision to refuse his firearms licence, in part due to his “alleged association with members of the Bandidos outlaw motorcycle gang”.

Mr Elfalak had told the tribunal he had repaired the roof of the Bandidos’ Leichhardt clubhouse but had not been a club member. He said he rode a Harley Davidson with a Bandidos sticker because he was given the $28,000 bike as part-payment for the roofing work.

“I accept that there is no evidence that he is a member of the Bandidos, or that he has been a member or ‘prospect’ member,” a tribunal member ruled.

“However ... there was ample evidence from which it could be inferred (he) had an association with members of this outlaw gang.’’

The tribunal said there was evidence Mr Elfalak had purchased a motorcycle from a Bandidos member and also gave the bike to a gang member to use.

“I cannot be satisfied he would not pose a risk to public safety if he were given access to a firearm,” the tribunal member ruled in denying his licence.
