NSW Police to interview new person of interest in William Tyrrell case

NSW Police will interview a new person of interest who they believe is responsible for the death and disappearance of William Tyrrell.

What happened to William Tyrrell?

NSW Police have zeroed in on a new person of interest who they believe is responsible for the death and disappearance of William Tyrrell.

The investigation has dramatically shifted its focus from previous lines of inquiry to a suspect previously ruled out by detectives then in charge.

Police are now confident they will solve the mystery of the disappearance of the three-year-old boy, who was last seen in 2014.

A new investigation into William’s disappearance has uncovered clues previously not explored, a senior police officer has told The Daily Telegraph.

“It shines a totally new complexion on what investigators believe happened to William,’’ the officer said.

The Daily Telegraph understands the new suspect will be interviewed soon and confronted with the fresh information uncovered by investigators.

For legal reasons the Daily Telegraph cannot name the suspect. They have previously been spoken to by police but never pursued.

Police said they cannot discuss the new information which makes them so confident they are closing in on the truth around William’s disappearance.

On the morning of September 11, 2014 William was with his five-year-old sister and his foster parents at their foster grandmother’s home in Kendall on the NSW north coast after they travelled from their Sydney home for a surprise visit.

That morning William and his older sister were playing a game called “tigers” on the lawn of the home. At the time William was dressed in his beloved Spider-Man outfit which he was photographed in not long before he vanished.

His sister has been unable to tell police much about what happened that morning.

Neither his sister or his foster parents are allowed to be identified because of state laws but they have made a number of public appeals without being named.

His biological parents and grandmother have also made repeated public statements asking for help in solving what happened to William.

There have been a number of suspects and theories, including one that he was grabbed by a person involved in a paedophile ring operating in the area.

A $1 million reward was offered by the NSW State government in 2016 and is still active for information which leads to discovery of William‘s whereabouts, with police long conceding that he is dead.

There have been multiple searches in and around the home where he went missing but not one piece of evidence was ever found to indicate what happened to him.

In March 2019, a coronial inquest was launched into William’s disappearance, which is still ongoing.
