A Harbour cruise on a luxury charter vessel and a child’s birthday party were targeted by officers from the Raptor Squad cracking down on known members and associates of Sydney’s warring Alamaddine and Hamze families.
A large group of men known to be linked to the Alamaddines were attending a party of one of the men’s children in a park in north-west Sydney when the officers swooped.
“As part of proactive operations under Strike Force Hawk, Raptor Squad officers attended a sporting complex on Marella Avenue at Kellyville about 3.30pm yesterday,’’ a police spokesman said.
Strikeforce Hawk has been set up to disrupt people involved with the clans after a year-long feud has seen at least four people shot dead.
“Police spoke with 27 men – aged between 17 and 46 – before the group was searched and issued a move on direction,’’ the spokesman said.
Among them were known members of a street gang known as KVT.
It’s common practice for those who fear their phones may be monitored to use social events as a cover to allow them to speak freely.
“Further checks revealed one of the men, aged 24, was wanted for an alleged assault at a club on Atchison Street, Wollongong, in March this year. He was arrested and taken to Castle Hill Police Station, where he was charged with affray,’’ the spokesman said.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on December 7.
Later that evening Raptor Squad officers and water police boarded a cruise on the Seven Star super yacht which costs over $2000 an hour to hire.
Among those on board were Tarek Alamaddine, rapper Ali Younes, known as Ay Huncho and a well known Comanchero bikie associate.
“As part of proactive operations under Strike Force Hawk, Raptor Squad officers, assisted by Marine Area Command, conducted a business inspection of a vessel on Sydney Harbour about 8pm yesterday. Police spoke with five men – aged between 23 and 36 – before they were searched by officers who located and seized $7,850 cash.’’
None of those on board were charged with any offences.
