A South Coast man has admitted to multiple charges, including possessing the illegal firearm and stealing a car, while other “serious” allegations were withdrawn.

Troy Vlahos’ case was mentioned in Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday, following allegations he fired a sawn-off shotgun near Denhams Beach last year.

However, the court heard this allegation – as well as a number of the 31-year-old’s other charges – were being withdrawn following a plea deal, including possessing a loaded firearm in public, supplying, acquiring or possessing a stolen firearm, possessing ammunition without holding a permit, and dishonestly obtaining property by deception.

The Nowra man instead pleaded guilty to possessing a shortened firearm without authority, stealing a motor vehicle, and driving disqualified.

Court documents state the charges stem from an incident on January 12, 2024, where police found a sawn-off shotgun abandoned at Denhams Beach – 6km south of Batemans Bay.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District attended and established a crime scene, alleging the gun was shot earlier the same day.

The firearm was seized at the scene and taken for forensic examination.

The court heard it was during this period where Vlahos then stole and drove a car, despite his licence being disqualified.

Following investigations from South Coast Police District officers on May 3, Vlahos was also arrested and charged.

He was refused bail and has remained in custody since.

In court on Monday, Magistrate Doug Dick noted Vlahos – who is represented by Lisa Stone – would now be moving to the jurisdiction of Bega District Court.

His case was adjourned to June 10 for a sentencing date to be set.
