A STANDOVER man who once claimed to “run the Eastern Suburbs” is back in strife for moving counterfeit money for slain gangster Pasquale Barbaro.

Henry Sabbah has forged a lengthy career in Sydney’s criminal underworld and in the process made a number of high-profile associates.

Michael Ibrahim — the brother of nightclub identity John Ibrahim — organised his $60,000 bail in 2002, police documents showed, and he once had a bust-up with King Cross identity, bikie associate and stabbing survivor Mark Judge in Bondi Junction.

In his latest run-in with police, he dragged Mafioso descendant Barbaro into the mix.

Sabbah was charged in April, 2016, after police found more than $31,000 worth of counterfeit $50 notes in his Diesel man bag.

Sabbah, 45, a personal trainer and construction industry figure, called his girlfriend and sister from his cell after being charged with possessing the counterfeit cash, saying a “Pasquale” had been paying him $200 a day and asked him to move the funny money.

Sabbah used an Uber driver to take him between Redfern and Fairfield two days before his arrest and paid him $350 in counterfeit cash.

There were nine different phone numbers listed for Barbaro — from ‘Pat Bar’ to ‘Pat Bro Mate’ — in his iPhone.

Seven months after Sabbah was arrested, Barbaro, 35, was shot dead in Earlwood.

When an expert from the Reserve Bank of Australia examined Sabbah’s bank notes, the ink was bleeding around the edges and the 638 notes had a chemical smell.

Father-of-two Sabbah pleaded guilty to possessing counterfeit money and will be sentenced in Downing Centre District Court later this month.
