('Fibber') McGee, a member of the Machine Gun Platoon, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), sits on the edge of a narrow slit trench or dugout and reads a book. Lying on the ground beside him (left) are a trenching tool, some ration boxes, a mug and a billy, while on the other side are some pouches, a slouch hat, a dixie and a pair of binoculars hanging from the barrel of his .303 rifle which is standing in the trench. At rear, some other soldiers are taking food out of ration boxes. Picture: Australian War Memorial
