Two lynx have been spotted in the Scottish Highlands, in the same area where a pair of the wild cats were caught on Thursday.
The creatures were seen near Kingussie in the Cairngorms National Park on Friday.
Police in Scotland have warned the public not to approach the animals, and said officers are working with trained personnel to capture them.
Police said information suggested the sighting was related to the release of the two lynx which were captured earlier in the week.
A spokesperson said: “Members of the public are asked not to approach the animals and officers are working with specially trained personnel to capture them.
“Inquiries suggest the sighting relates to a release of two lynx seen in the same area on Wednesday, 8 January. They were safely captured on Thursday, 9 January.”
The two animals captured earlier this week were taken into the care of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS).
Experts from the charity worked with police to humanely trap the cats.
The unauthorised release of the creatures, which has caused worry for farmers, has angered conservationists who are working on an approved program to reintroduce lynx in the Highlands.
