AN emphasis on the past, present and future of gaming was the focus of Sony’s first ever conference at Paris Games Week.

PlayStation Managing Director Michael Ephraim said for the past 20 years PlayStation has been changing the way people used video game consoles.

“PlayStation has a massive commitment to the future of gaming, which includes remastering of legendary retro games and the introduction of new ground-breaking games,” he told news.com.au

“Then we have a focus on virtual reality, which will be the biggest innovative change gaming has seen in the last 20 years.”

Despite a large investment into the realm of virtual reality, Mr Ephraim believes the end of the traditional console is still a ways off yet.

“Things don’t happen overnight and it will still be quite a while before we master VR,” he said.

“And with the PS4 offering so many different ways to play games, I wouldn’t be expecting traditional gaming to go anywhere in a hurry,” he said.

In terms of all the titles previewed at the Paris Games Week conference, Mr Ephraim said Wild and Dreams stood out as highlights.

Wild has the premise of being able to possess animals in nature and use them to achieve objectives in the game. It’s a great idea and has a beautiful open world to explore,” he said.

Dreams is a really interesting concept coming from the creative publisher behind Little Big Planet and Tearaway. We first saw the demo at E3 and I think it has so much potential to be a quirky, fun game that appeals to kids and gamers from the older generation.”

With the rebooting of older franchises, Mr Ephraim said Uncharted tops the list.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is great because it offers people who may not have own a console the opportunity to play the game and also introduces the franchise to a whole new generation before the next game in the series is released next year,” he said.

And while not technically a reboot, Mr Ephraim said he was ecstatic to see Tekken making a comeback on the console with the seventh game in the franchise scheduled for release next year.

“I was playing Tekken 20 years ago and I think it’s absolutely brilliant so many fans will be able to play it again,” he said.
