Sony PlayStation 5 set to dwarf Xbox as biggest console ever

Lucky gamers who manage to actually get their hands on the next-generation Sony PlayStation 5 when it goes on sale in November could face another challenge — finding somewhere to put it.

The PS5 looks to be highly sought after among gamers looking to pick up a next-generation console, with pre-orders quickly being exhausted shortly after opening last week.

Its rival, Xbox will open pre-orders for the Series S and Series X consoles on Tuesday.

PlayStation comfortably won the last battle between the two gaming brands and looks likely to do the same this time around.

The Sony PS5 is set to hit shelves in November.

When the new console was unveiled however, gamers weren’t too impressed by its design, which was mocked for its wavey “fins” that some said made it look like a Wi-Fi router.

Unfortunately if you’re not a fan of the new design it’s going to be hard to miss.

The PS5 looks set to be the biggest games console in modern history, dwarfing the original Xbox and PS3’s launch model.

Photos of the console submitted to Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) for approval show the size of the PS5.

Dimensions listed by Sony note the PS5 stands approximately 390mm tall, 260mm deep and 104mm wide.

It will also weigh a sizeable 4.5 kilograms.

The cheaper, digital only version of the console isn’t much slimmer for not having the disc drive, losing just 12mm and 600 grams.

Those measurements exclude the consoles optional standing base.

In comparison the Xbox Series X lists dimensions of 301mm tall, 151mm deep, and 151mm wide.

The digital only Series S is nearly 60 per cent smaller, according to Microsoft.
