PlayStation’s re-release of Journey on the PS4 met with praise

JOURNEY was already considered the one of the best games ever when it came out on the PS3. Now, its re-release on the PS4 means it’s even better.

Journey. Game.
Journey. Game.

WHEN gaming developers Thatgamecompany released Journey on the PlayStation 3 in 2012, it was met with critical and commercial praise worldwide.

Solidifying itself as one of the best releases in recent times, the game earned perfect or near perfect scores across the board and had the prestigious honour of being voted the “Game of the Year” at the 16th Annual D.I.C.E awards.

The game was largely considered a modern milestone thanks to its stunning visuals and audio content that evoked emotions from those playing.

Journey begins with the player taking control of an androgynous robed figure standing in a vast desert gazing toward a mountain in the distance.

As the ultimate destination of the game, players are required to travel through several sub-environments before reaching the mountain.

While making their way toward the mountain, players encounter other online gamers partaking in the same path of self-discovery.

By teaming up with these players, gamers are able to achieve the goals of the game much quicker than they could when playing solo.

However, the only catch is players can only interact with each other through a series of musical chimes.

This may sound bizarre, but for those playing the game it only adds to the overall feeling of the game which promises to create a sense of smallness and wonder.

Following its success, PlayStation recently re-released the game on its PS4 console in a hope to recreate the magic of the original.

In preparation for the re-release, the game developers made only one alteration and that was to have the frame rate run at 1080p/60fps.

Despite only being a small tweak, the difference in tenfold and only helps improve the fluidity that made the first game such a crowd-pleaser.

After being released late last month, it appears the game still holds the same appeal as its predecessor with PlayStation’s store sales charts showing it was most purchase in July.
