BEING a music composer for a video game is hard enough, but that’s nothing compared to the pressure of creating the soundtrack for one of the biggest gaming franchises ever made.

This is the reality Kazuma Jinnouchi faced when composing the music for Halo 5: Guardians.

When Mr Jinnouchi was offered the opportunity, he hoped to breathe new life into the legendary music of Halo, while balancing the high expectations of millions of fans around the world.

“It’s not just about personal preference; we had to make sure everything made sense with the music from the previous games in the series,” he told news.com.au.

Halo fans love the music, so we tried to make the best experience possible.”

Mr Jinnouchi said he had been involved in the creative process from the very early stages to make sure he nailed the score.

“Getting a little bit of knowledge of the overall story and the type of characters was the start of the creative process of deciding what the tone should be,” he said.

“We have all of the music in our catalogue and a lot of discussion about which music should go where.

“The placement doesn’t come until very late in the production.”

Mr Jinnouchi said the process was a team effort that required lots of hands to be involved in the final piece.

“I was very close in the studio, working with game designers and the production team,” he said.

“We spent 10 days recording at Abbey Road studios with a 96-piece orchestra, on top of electronic instruments that I programmed.”

Halo 5: Guardians will be released October 27.
