Baseball star tells wife to stay away from salon, hairdresser

Baseball star Carlos Correa has instructed his wife to stay away from the salon and hairdresser as he prepares for the MLB season to start.

Daniella Correa Rodriguez will be staying at home during the season.

Baseball star Carlos Correa has banned his wife from visiting the salon or hairdresser to reduce the threat of either of them contracting COVID-19 and interrupting his campaign.

America’s Major League Baseball (MLB) season will get underway on July 23 and feature a shortened 60-game schedule which sees teams play their four division rivals 10 times each.

Their other 20 games will be against interleague opponents in the same region as MLB bosses attempt to minimise travel amid the global pandemic.

Strict biosecurity measures are in place and Correa’s team, the Houston Astros, cancelled a training session this week because the results of players’ coronavirus tests didn’t come back in time.

Correa is playing things safe, telling his wife — beauty queen Daniella Correa Rodriguez, who was crowned Miss Texas in 2016 — to get used to life at home even as parts of America open up.

“When I talk to my wife, she knows,” Correa said. “No getting your nails done. No getting your hair done right now. So, we’re going to be home.

“We’re going to focus on the baseball season and once everything is done, then you can go to get your nails done and do everything else.

“If you are home there’s a really low chance you can contract COVID-19, especially if no one in your household is going out either.”

Correa and Rodriguez got married in December and the baseballer knows it’s the players’ responsibility to abide by the rules.

Several Astros players have tested positive for coronavirus since teams returned to practice and Correa is determined to limit the risk of an outbreak derailing the season further.

“We know what it takes to make the season possible,” he said. “What we’re doing is we come to work out and we go back to our houses. I think that’s the key.

“I think if we can keep it simple. Simple as come get your work in and go back home, get some rest, I think we’ll be able to be fine and be able to carry on with the season.”

The season was supposed to start on March 26, and MLB and the players’ union didn’t reach agreement on a shortened format until June 23.
