PRO surfer Sally Fitzgibbons says neither married life or a budding business empire will be sending her to the sidelines any time soon with the 2020 Tokyo Olympics firmly on her radar.

A former state level runner who harboured Olympic track ambitions in her teens, Fitzgibbons says she gets goosebumps just thinking about surfing a Games debut at the Tokyo Games.

Fitzgibbons is due to marry NRL and Kangaroos star Trent Merrin in the new year with her business, Fitzgibbons International, continuing to grow.

Fitzgibbons, who is yet to win a world title despite being runner-up in the title race on multiple occasions, says she has plenty of unfinished business in competitive surfing.

“The Olympics are huge. I had a dream as an eight year old of going to an Olympics. I had to chance that to being a world champion when I got into surfing,” she said.

“But now it’s back on the table which is awesome. It gives me goosebumps. For sure I want to go there.

Fitzgibbons said married life won’t spoil her dreams with Merrin completely supportive of her sporting ambitions.

“I’m just getting started,” said Fitzgibbons, whose fiancee is currently on tour with the Kangaroos until the end of the month.

“I’m still coming out of the blocks.

“I’m pushing hard, it’s still hurts when I don’t win.

“I’m still hungry to success and I still get frustrated when things don’t go my way.”

Fitzgibbon’s goal is to finish the world surf league off with a bang with victory in the finale in Maui later this month.

Fitzgibbons is currently ranked seventh on the world rankings and can significantly improve with a top result at the Maui Pro.
