SYDNEY Uni Flames coach Cheryl Chambers says her side has found their rhythm just in time for a crucial match-up against defending WNBL champions Townsville Fire next Sunday at home.

A stirring performance from a benchie elevated to the starting five and an inform import put the Sydney Uni Flame back In the winners circle in round six of the national competition.

After a seesawing match it was the Flames who ended up taking the win at home with their 87-75 victory over the Melbourne Boomers.

It was a significant victory for coach Cheryl Chambers, a former coach of the Boomers who joined the Flames this season.

And it was a match to remember for under 17 world champion Lara McSpadden who made her WBBL debut on the night.

It has also signalled a change in fortunes of the side still smarting from their two-point overtime loss to Fire a week ago on the road.

The two sides will clash for the third time this season — the Flames won the opening encounter — next Sunday at Brydens Arena in Sydney.

“It was a great win and hopefully this is the start of bigger and better things,” Chambers said.

“They will take a lot of confidence from this win.”

American import Asia Taylor top scored for the Flames with 20 points and seven rebounds.

Elevated into the stating five to cover an injury to American Jennifer Hanson, Carly Boag revelled in the situation to finish with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Another highlight was Newcastle schoolgirl Cassidy McLean scoring her first ever points in the WNBL.
