SYDNEY shooter Susan Pettitt says it will be “special” to lead Australia at the Fast5 World Series after being confirmed as captain on Thursday.
Pettitt will be supported in the role by Kate Shimmin who has been named as vice-captain of the Australian Fast 5 team.
The tournament, where a modified version of netball is played, is being held in Melbourne from October 29-30.
Pettitt recently left the Swifts to sign on with the new GWS Giants backed team for the Australian netball league in 2017.
“I feel very honoured to be named captain of the Australian Fast 5 team,” Pettitt said.
“We have such a strong group of players this year and I think we have a really good chance of taking home the title.
“This is the first time the Fast 5 netball world series will be played on Australian soil, so it will be a really special moment leading the Australian team in front of our home crowd.”
Australia will play against New Zealand, England, Jamaica, Malawi and South Africa in the event
The modified involves five player sides, shortened quarters, multiple point shots and double point power plays.
