SHE’S won six before but Stephanie Gilmore says winning a record seventh world crown of surfing at the Maui Pro is “far-fetched”.
Gilmore is still mathematically a contender to win although the odds are against it happening with fellow Aussies Tyler Wright and Stephanie Gilmore, along with American Courtney Conlogue in the box seat to win the 2017 world crown.

But Gilmore says she hasn’t written herself off completely at the Maui Pro which called its second lay day Monday due to small swell.
“There is a lot of things that can roll out at this stage of the game so I just have to surf my best and then sit back and watch it play out,’’ Gilmore said from Hawaii.
“But winning the world title, it’s a bit far-fetched.’’

Gilmore won her last world title in Maui in 2014 but looked to be on track for another early season when she won the first event of the year on the Gold Coast.
“I had a great at the start but I wasn’t very consistent,” Gilmore said.
“I’ve had some nice moments and some bad ones.
“It wasn’t the year I had envisioned after my first win of the season.”
The waiting period for the event started on Sunday with officials confident the event will be contested in good swell sometime this week.
