Sally Pearson, Ella Nelson, Dani Stevens, Lauren Wells have plenty to celebrate

SALLY Pearson, discus star Dani Stevens, sprinter Ella Nelson and hurdler Lauren Wells swapped track shoes for heels to celebrate their world selection.

SALLY Pearson, discus star Dani Stevens, sprinter Ella Nelson and hurdler Lauren Wells have swapped track shoes for heels as they celebrated booking their tickets to this years world athletics championships in London.

Pearson, Samuels and Wells won national, titles in their pet events in Sydney on the weekend to confirm their selection in the Australian team along with Nelson, javelin-thrower Hamish Peacock, shot-putter Damien Birkinhead and pole-vaulter Kurtis Marschall.

All were named at an athletics gala dinner at the conclusion of the Sydney meet.

Sally Pearson was the star of the event. stopping the clock at 12.53 sec — her fastest time since the Moscow world championships of 2013.

Stevens, chasing her second world title this year after narrowly missing an Olympic gold in Rio last year, produced a convincing 65.07m throw in the final round to claim her Australian crown and a spot on the flight to London.

“It was a challenging competition with the wind and the rain,” she said.

“I made a big effort to refocus every throw, taking into account the conditions. This weather is possible in London so I want to make sure I’m ready for it.

“This has been the best start to a season to date, I’d say.’’

Nelson finished second in the 200m to earn her selection with Wells’ winning the women’s 400m hurdles for her 10th national crown in the discipline.
