IT’S a Generation Now v Generation Next surfing bout.

An all-Aussie contest between two world champions.

WHY AUSSIE SURFERS NEED TO WIN THIS EVENT

FROM CRAZY DEBUT TO JILLAROOS SQUAD

World champion Tyler Wright is tipped to win the round two battle with Aussie youngster Macy Callaghan at the Swatch Pro at Huntington when surfing resumes after days of poor surf conditions.

But world junior champion Callaghan, a wildcard invitee to her first ever world tour event, has proved in the past she has the moves to cause one almighty upset.

And if the NSW Central Coast teenager achieves the feat in the sudden-death elimination round, it will be the biggest upset of the year in women’s world surfing.

Wright needs to advance out of the second round at Trestles to stay in the world title chase lead with fellow Australian Sally Fitzgibbons able to overtake her with a top result in the US event.

Callaghan won the world junior surfing crown at Kiama earlier this year.

Also needing a top result when competition resumes is Stephanie Gilmore who must also navigate out of the sudden-death second round to keep her hands on a top four ranking.

Like Wright, Gilmore is facing a rising star of the sport in fellow Aussie and first-year tour rookie Bronte Macaulay.

Also facing a test of mettle when the surfing is reignited is former Hawaiian world champion Carissa Moore, who is matched against Malia Manuel in her second round clash.
