If her rivals haven’t yet realised how tough Jamie-Lee Price is, her Giants teammates certainly do after she hit the deck with an almighty thud in the lead-up to their round one clash.

If her rivals haven’t yet realised how tough Jamie-Lee Price is, her Giants teammates certainly do.

In the lead up to the first round of Super Netball last month Price hit the deck with an almighty thud to find a front tooth embedded in her lip.

“She went up for a ball. Usually it’s the other players bouncing off her but this time it was she who hit the deck,” said Giants captain Kim Green of the high-speed clash in pre-season.

“She was on the floor and looked so surprised.

“She was mumbling, ‘my tooth is in my thwip, my tooth is in my thwip, but she could hardly talk.

“She wasn’t crying. She was just genuinely shocked at coming off second best for a change.”

Price, whose top lip is still swollen inside from the clash, said she is still annoyed with herself over the incident.

“I see myself as pretty tough, I’m pretty competitive and I don’t like coming off second best,” said the Giants defender who is in line to make the Diamonds team to compete at the World Cup in the UK later this year.

“When I saw blood I knew I had to come off and when I tried to speak I realised my lip was stuck under my tooth. They had to pull it out so I could talk.”

Six stitches later and now recovered from the injury, Price is back on the court giving grief to her rivals.

Top performances for the Giants in upcoming weeks will help Price realise her dream of representing Australia at a World Cup.

“Realistically there’s no point stressing about the World Cup,’’ she said.

“If I’m not playing good for the Giants I probably won’t get looked at so that’s my focus, playing hard for the Giants.’’

The Giants take on the Magpies in what could be the match of the round at the Quaycentre on Sunday at 5pm.

The Swifts host the West Coast Fever in the earlier match at 1pm.
