Off & Racing: Spring Champion Stakes Day at Randwick

OUR experts give you an early shot at finding a winner as they look at the major races around the nation.

Last week ... Darren Prendergast steered punters into Epsom Handicap winner Hauraki ($6.50) with his best bet after Ray Thomas had got the ball rolling with It’s Somehwat ($1.55) at Randwick. Nathan Exelby also delivered as Pepperano ($2) got the job done at Doomben. Brad Davidson was on the money with his value tip to back Dibayani for a place in the Epsom Handicap. Dibayani ($26, $6.70 place) was pipped on the line by Hauraki, while Simon Moy got punters off to a good start last Friday night when Real Love ($3) won at Moonee Valley.

BRAD DAVIDSON & SHAYNE O’CASS PREVIEW SATURDAY’S BIG RACES

CAULFIELD

MATT STEWART (Herald Sun). Best bet form: 4x262

STAR TURN

Race 10, No. 12

One of the best members of a hot group of three-year-olds. Surely wins.

TAB Fixed Odds: $2.80

Value Bet: PRINCE OF PENZANCE (Race 2, No. 1)

TAB Fixed Odds: $10

MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun). Form: 42114

STAR TURN

Race 10, No. 12

Brilliant three-year-old colt who made Astern work to beat him when he last appeared. Has a great weight advantage over his rivals and he’s going to take catching.

TAB Fixed Odds: $2.80

Value Bet: STOP MAKING SENSE (Race 3, No. 11)

TAB Fixed Odds: $8.50

DARYL TIMMS (Herald Sun). Form: 24212

FOXPLAY

Race 7, No. 4

Ready to progress to 1600m after two wins in a row at Group 2 level. Can extend it to three.

TAB Fixed Odds: $2.90

Value Bet: TOSEN STARDOM (Race 9, No. 2)

TAB Fixed Odds: $5.50

CHRIS VERNUCCIO, DANNY RUSSELL & MATT STEWART PREVIEW GUINEAS DAY AT CAULFIELD

BRAD DAVIDSON (Daily Telegraph). Form: 21577

WAZZENME

Race 8, No. 9

He’s hardly a good thing but the $21 on offer about Wazzenme in the Caulfield Guineas is good value. He would have defeated Sacred Elixir had he drawn a barrier last start and happy to back him each-way.

TAB Fixed Odds: $7

Value Bet: MISSROCK (Race 7, No. 2)

TAB Fixed Odds: $12

SIMON MOY (SuperRacing). Form: 12126

SACRED ELIXIR

Race 8, No. 1

This young Kiwi was exceptional in the prelude over an unsuitable distance. Trainer Tony Pike is pleased with his form and if the Sydney sharpshooters don’t being their A-game there is no reason why he cannot add another Group 1 to the one he won during the Queensland winter.

TAB Fixed Odds: $6.50

Value Bet: MISSROCK (Race 7, No. 2)

TAB Fixed Odds: $12

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (SuperRacing). Form: 5x164

FOXPLAY

Race 7, No. 4

Bypassed last week’s Flight Stakes and should be fresher for the Thousand Guineas against subsequent winner Global Glamour, who has to contend with the travel to Melbourne off a seven-day back up. Foxplay did beat Global Glamour the last time the two met despite finding trouble and the Sydney fillies do look a class above.

TAB Fixed Odds: $2.90

Value Bet: IMPENDING (Race 8, No. 2)

TAB Fixed Odds: $4.40

MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS

RANDWICK

RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegraph). Form: 21251

DIXIE CHICK

Race 9, No. 10

Talented mare who will be fitter for her comeback effort, drops 4.5kg and is better suited on the bigger Randwick track.

TAB Fixed Odds: $6

JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegraph). Form: 13524

HIS MAJESTY

Race 6, No. 7

Has race fitness on his side and lost no admirers with his gallant fourth behind Chetwood in the Cameron Handicap at the Beaumont track last start. Looks well placed and any give in ground would be welcomed.

TAB Fixed Odds: $5.50

Value Bet: BALMAIN BOY (Race 3, No. 8)

TAB Fixed Odds: $4.60

Look for Signposted to return to the winner’s list at Royal Randwick. Picture: Simon Bullard

SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman). Form: 73316

ROCK FORTHE LADIES

Race 9, No. 2

Trial watchers will only want to tip one horse all day I reckon (apart from Showtime I guess) and that’s Rock Forthe Ladies. I am not saying ‘moral’ but he’s borderline good thing in my book.

TAB Fixed Odds: $6

Value Bet: LOYAL TOAST (Race 4, No. 18)

TAB Fixed Odds: $51

DARREN PRENDERGAST (SuperRacing). Form: 16521

SIGNPOSTED

Race 3, No. 1

Won four in a row before chasing home Fabrizio for second last start. Rock-hard fit and gets weight relief with BlaIke McDougall’s claim. Great chance.

TAB Fixed Odds: $6

Value Bet: FLAMBERGE (Caulfield, Race 10, No. 1)

TAB Fixed Odds: $9

MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS

DOOMBEN

NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail). Form: 22641

HANWRITTEN

Race 5, No. 10

Clocked strong figures in Sydney last time and a repeat of that makes him the one to beat here. Gets the services of Jeff Lloyd, who is striking at a phenomenal level in metro grade in the new season.

TAB Fixed Odds: $3.30

Value Bet: NEARCTIC CHILLER (Race 2, No. 13)

TAB Fixed Odds: $12

MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS

SKY Central Thoroughbred News - 5th of October

MORPHETTVILLE

BEN SCADDEN (The Advertiser). Form: 16144

GREY STREET

Race 2, No. 5

Smart Victorian mare who has been close-up in good Melbourne grade at both runs back from a break. Should be finishing her race off powerfully with 3kg claim for in-form apprentice Matthew Poon.

TAB Fixed Odds: $2.10

Value Bet: LOVEITT (Race 3, No. 4)

TAB Fixed Odds: $7.50

LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser). Form: 86113

JIM’S JOURNEY

Race 1, No. 1

Quality local staying prospect who should be ready to fire after three runs back from a break.

He was super first-up in the Penny edition, ran OK in the distance reduced Balaklava Cup before a solid effort behind Raw Impulse last time. This is a significant drop in class, he’s out to his right journey and this does look his race to lose.

TAB Fixed Odds: $3

Value Bet: ROSELLI STING (Race 8, No. 8)

TAB Fixed Odds: $7

MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS
