During the arrest the man in a white shirt, handcuffed and seated on Pitt St, said to police: “I f*ing react … You guys (police) are f*ing dumb.”
The man in the green shirt and white jacket was seated on the ground, not handcuffed and appeared to have a bruise under his left eye.
Police were talking to the man in the green shirt.
“You are swearing in a public place,” a police officer said.
The handcuffed man called the other man “my brother” before being escorted towards a police vehicle where his person was searched.
“I’m f*ing pissed mate. Honestly, you’re f*ing pigs,” the man in the white shirt said to police.
The pair, aged 43 and 34 were each charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company and intimidating police. The 43-year-old was additionally charged with two counts of assault.
They were granted police bail to appear in court next month.
THE ESTABLISHMENT
In a separate incident, a massive bar brawl erupted at the Establishment Bar in Sydney’s CBD after Melbourne Cup celebrations boiled over among revellers.
Police were called to the popular Merivale bar — owned by pub baron Justin Hemmes — just before 10pm after a wild fight broke out near the entrance of the venue.
Two men allegedly punched a man, 38, in the face — he fell to the ground unconscious. A 26-year-old woman was also struck in the face with a plastic cup, police said.
A scuffle is then believed to have ensued with several men and women involved and bouncers desperately trying to contain the melee.
The man was treated and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.
The woman and a 39-year-old man were treated for facial lacerations and taken to Sydney Eye Hospital.
The male who was allegedly assaulted drifted in and out of consciousness after striking his head on the ground, but luckily an off-duty nurse named Raphael was nearby and assisted until paramedics arrived.
“Mate, he hit the ground so hard, like a billiard ball off the ground — that was what knocked him out,” Raphael said.
“We didn’t do much because I had nothing on me but but we checked his vitals and just watched him until we could get him on a stretcher.”
Raphael said the man who was assaulted was a smaller man and the man who assaulted him was large and covered in tattoos.
“It’s an example of one bloke being a hero and another bloke being cheeky,” he said.
Police arrested a man at the scene and escorted him from the premises and into the back of a police van alongside.
A woman was also put in the back of the same van without handcuffs on.
Police say up to three people were injured in the incident with two possibly being escorted to hospital.
A crime scene was set up at the entrance to the bar with police standing inside the tape while seemingly unperturbed Melbourne Cup revellers continued to party on the other side.
Just after 11pm detectives left the scene, but uniformed police remained at the Establishment to continue their inquiries.
Just before midnight another ambulance arrived and police brought out a handcuffed man dressed in a white dress shirt and khakis.
The paramedics left without a patient.
