TAB Market Update: San Domenico Stakes - Rosehill

OUR experts try to boost your bank balance with the best value bets of the weekend in the major cards around the nation.

Last week ... Nathan Exelby and Simon Moy hit the target with The Monstar ($3.90) saluting at Eagle Farm, while Chris Vernuccio tipped punters into Beirut ($3.90) in the Group 3 Spring Stakes at Mophettville.

HOT TIPS: WEEKEND BEST BETS

SATURDAY MEETINGS (AEST Times)

ROSEHILL (9 races, start 12pm),

EAGLE FARM (8 races, start 12.07pm),

CAULFIELD (9 races, start 12.15pm),

MORPHETTVILLE PARKS (8 races, 12.58pm),

BELMONT (8 races, start 2.24pm).

ROSEHILL

RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegraph). Form: 0330x

TAKEWING

Race 9, No. 10

Is resuming in a very tough race but he is a good each-way contender. Although Takewing has a poor win strike-rate – two wins from 17 starts – this is partly attributable to his racing style as he usually settles well back in his races. He needs luck in running and a genuine tempo to get his chance. Saturday’s race should be genuinely run which suits Takewing. He sprinted brilliantly fresh last preparation to win at the provincials recording fast closing sectionals. Good value.

TAB Fixed Odds: $13

NIC ASHMAN (Daily Telegraph). Form: x4608

DECISION TIME

Race 8, No. 2

Former top class sprinter who has contested some of Australia’s best races. He hasn’t raced at Rosehill for some time and if you had to pick his favourite track, that would be it. Doesn’t handle heavy conditions and the drying surface will suit.

TAB Fixed Odds: $26

STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegraph). Form: 50705

ROYAL JACKPOT

Race 4, No. 9

Matthew Dale produced this gelding first-up at Canterbury on July 27 and he ran into plenty of trouble when finishing sixth. He has won two of four second-up outings and with better luck in running will take a hand in the finish here.

TAB Fixed Odds: $11

JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegraph). Form: x7737

SWEET FIRE

Race 6, No. 7

Has not been entirely comfortable in sloppy conditions at his past two Rosehill attempts but gets on to a drying surface today and plunges in weight. Placed at only attempt this track and distance. Each-way all day.

TAB Fixed Odds: $13

Decision Time, left, looks great value at Rosehill on Saturday. Picture: Simon Bullard

SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman). Form: x9642

TAKEWING

Race 9, No. 10

The horse is 6s 1-0-2 fresh, has trialled twice — finishing 8 of 8 then 8 of 9 but, trust me, that’s the way Jason Coyle would have wanted it — Jay Ford had a lapful under him both times! You watch this horse run right over the top of them at big odds.

TAB Fixed Odds: $13

DARREN PRENDERGAST (SuperRacing). Form: 34137

ORBEC

Race 6, No. 3

Former French stayer on a Metrop mission this spring. Flashed home for second first-up over this track and distance last campaign and should not be underestimated here.

TAB Fixed Odds: $8

CAULFIELD

MATT STEWART (Herald Sun). Form: 67850

JAMEKA

Race 7, No. 15

Heaps of speed and this should set up for a swooper. She will come hard late down the middle.

TAB Fixed Odds: $13

MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun) Form: x3922

SNOOPY (Scratched)

Race 8, No. 9

Brilliant sprinter resuming. Won jump-out in good fashion at Caulfield recently. Well drawn and well weighted. $6.50 looks over the odds.

TAB Market Update: PB Lawrence Stakes - Caulfield

DARYL TIMMS (Herald Sun) Form: 70940

CHOICE

Race 2, No. 3

Best form in New Zealand is on heavy, but showed enough at first Australian start to suggest she can be a factor here.

TAB Fixed Odds: $5.50

SIMON MOY (SuperRacing). Form: 00x11

THE CLEANER

Race 7, No. 2

Always like horses first-up for new stable. Change up in routine often works wonders. Cranbourne trial win last month was electric and second in this race last year. Has drawn the perfect gate to give them something to chase.

TAB Fixed Odds: $8.50

CHRIS VERNUCCIO (SuperRacing). Form: 34811

LORD OF THE SKY

Race 7, No. 3

Dominant win in the Bletchingly Stakes, so why can’t he do it again? He does have to step up to 1400m and there will be more early speed, but he’s fit and has learnt to settle.

TAB fixed odds: $6

NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 74737

SUAVITO

Race 7, No. 12

Underrated mare who has won three of her previous five first-up runs from a spell and looks and can get the job done again over her pet distance.

TAB Fixed Odds: $4.80

The Cleaner will give rivals plenty to chase on Saturday.

EAGLE FARM

NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail). Form: 20001

OLD SMOKEY

Race 8, No. 12

Building a handy record and impressed here last time racing away from lesser rivals at the end. Being proven on this surface is a big plus and he will run this trip out strongly. Expect him to measure up and double figures appeal.

TAB Fixed Odds: $13

MORPHETTVILLE

BEN SCADDEN (The Advertiser). Form: 33712

CASTA

Race 4, No. 2

Looked good winning at Mildura on debut for top trainer Tony McEvoy then not far away in a much stronger race at Flemington last time. Looks well placed in this grade and expect him to be finishing off strongly at each-way odds.

TAB Fixed Odds: $5.50

LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser). Form: 52314

GOLDEN CENTURY

Race 8, No. 6

Talented mare with a very good record. Won well here three starts back before chasing home the in-form Cavaloce. Plenty to like about the way she made good ground behind War Thunder last time and is drawn perfectly in barrier six with Matthew Neilson riding. Looks terrific each-way value.

TAB Fixed Odds: $5
