Melbourne Cup 2015: Brenton Avdulla fires back after Michelle Payne describes him as ‘little jockey from Sydney’

A SYDNEY jockey has hit back at Michelle Payne after she labelled him “a little jockey from Sydney” and said he should pack up back to the harbour city.

DON’T mess with the little guy.

Sydney jockey Brenton Avdulla has hit back at Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne after she labelled him “a little jockey from Sydney” and said he should pack up back to the harbour city.

Payne revealed on Nova radio yesterday that she had found herself entangled with Avdulla in the third race on Melbourne Cup day, with stewards finding that her horse — Falamonte — had been hampered after Avdulla’s mount, Tremec, and Patrick Maloney’s Spur On Gold shifted in on it.

“My whole life I’ve been brought up pretty rough and tough with my family … my whole life I’ve stuck up with the boys,” she told Fitzy & Wippa.

“I’d actually had a fight with one of the guys earlier in the day. A little jockey from Sydney was smacking into me and we were fighting. I was like ‘Don’t come back here with an attitude like that down here. Go back to Sydney’.

“The guys down here know I stick up for myself and they respect me.

“When he was like that I was like, ‘You little bugger, go back to Sydney if you are going to be like that’.”

Avdulla caught wind of the victorious Prince Of Penzance pilot’s comments on Thursday, returning serve on Twitter.

Brenton Avdulla has returned serve to Michelle Payne.

“It’s OK Michelle, I’m going back home tonight,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Maybe one day I will be more than a little jockey from Sydney.”
