Co-trainer Gerald Ryan is desperate to see Bottega take his place in Saturday’s $7.5 million Golden Eagle as the Rosehill horseman chases back-to-back feature weekends in Sydney.
Ryan believes Bottega can play a big part in the lucrative feature after racing without luck in the early part of the spring.
Bottega is 33rd in the order of entry for the 1500m event and should be right on the cusp of the 18-strong field when the final acceptances are declared on Tuesday.
“I just hope he makes the field because a few of the horses I thought weren’t going there, will be,” Ryan, who trains with Sterling Alexiou, said.
“He is still 33rd in the ballot but the horse is terrific.
“If we don’t go there we will go to Hawkesbury on the Thursday and then we will go down to The Gong.”
