Miami Bound has will not receive a Melbourne Cup weight penalty for her win in Saturday’s Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup.
Miami Bound will carry 51kg in the Melbourne Cup.

Racing Victoria’s chief handicapper Greg Carpenter said that weight was enough to test Miami Bound in Tuesday week’s $8 million event.
“At 5.5kg under weight-for-age benchmark in the Melbourne Cup, modern history says she already faces a significant challenge to win the race with 51kg,” Carpenter said.

“The last VRC Oaks winner to win the Melbourne Cup as a four-year-old was Light Fingers way back in 1965, while Kingston Rule was the last horse to the complete the Moonee Valley-Melbourne Cup double 30 years ago in 1990.”
Sir Dragonet could not be penalised for his win in the Cox Plate.
Weight-for-age winners cannot be re-handicapped for the Melbourne Cup.
TAB promoted Sir Dragonet to become an $8.50 second favourite in its Melbourne Cup market after his Cox Plate win. Miami Bound is a $34 chance.
