SOUTH Sydney legend Mario Fenech has admitted he “hates” the Roosters.

Fenech’s declaration comes as the NRL revisit 1988 in Saturday night’s grand final qualifier to commemorate the final match at Allianz Stadium, built 30 years ago.

To farewell the Moore Park ground, formerly known as the Sydney Football Stadium, hot dogs will cost just $2 — 1988 prices.

CONSISTENCY: Bellamy’s Melbourne better than Queensland

A crowd of around 42,000 is expected for the Rabbitohs-Roosters grand final qualifier. Souths fans have bought 53 per cent of tickets sold, the Roosters 47 per cent.

Two players from 1988 — Fenech and the Roosters’ David Trewhella — came together on Wednesday to relive some of Allianz Stadium’s grand moments.

In fact, they were opposing hookers in the second ever rugby league game played at the stadium.

“I grew up in the South Sydney area. I’m a Mascot junior. You can understand that I’m all for Souths,” Fenech said.

“Ultimately, the rivalry between Souths and the Roosters is like no other. A lot of people don’t understand it, but — and I don’t want to be rude — if you ask me which team I hate the most, I’d say the Roosters straight away

“I grew up that way, I’m a Souths junior. The team I like to beat is the Roosters.”

Fenech offered up reasons why he thinks the Bunnies will advance to the NRL grand final.

“I really want to win. The brand of football we are playing, we will certainly match them,” he said.

“They’re a very good football team — we’re not going to take them lightly — but Souths are playing a very good brand of football, and Anthony Seibold has been an incredible coach for us.

“He’s brought in a whole new dimension for us. We play a whole new ball game now — we’ve got an attacking structure which is very hard to predict and very hard to combat.

“I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the mighty Rabbitohs will progress to another grand final.

“This game will be an absolute cracker. I can guarantee there will be a lot of people coming to watch the game, because that rivalry between the red and green bunny and the Roosters is incredible.”
