A well-known player from a Sydney club will be hauled before the NRL to answer questions over the leaking of sex tapes involving former Penrith teammates.

Penrith have contacted the NRL to reveal the identity of a former Panthers player they believe has been uploading footy player sex tapes on to social media.

The Daily Telegraph knows the identity of the man current Penrith players have named to club management. Although they don’t know his motives.

Penrith’s Tyrone Phillips and Liam Coleman are the players involved in the latest sex tape circulating on social media that has NRL club executives fearing there are “dozens” more scandals to come.

“The person leaking the videos, what is his motive?” Panthers winger Josh Mansour said.

The NRL’s integrity unit is investigating the new footage, which lasts just five seconds and features Coleman, Phillips and a woman. There is no suggestion the act was non-consensual. But, a Panthers official has described it as “immoral” and “a stupid thing to do”.

It come comes just days after two nine-month old videos of Panthers teammate Tyrone May emerged, leaving clubs across the league scrambling to deal with the potential influx of new unsavoury footage.

It prompted one senior official to declare: “I reckon there’d be a lot of nervous footballers out there.”

One Sydney club has even undertaken an audit to ensure their players were not part of any rumours circulating.

“There are dozens of tapes out there — I have been hearing that for weeks now,” an official said. “The NRL know there is plenty more to come.”

The latest video drama is a further stain on rugby league’s image, which chief executive Todd Greenberg has attempted to clean up.

“It was all consensual. There was no violence,” said a Panthers official who has watched the latest video.

“No one has broken the law but it is immoral. It’s a stupid thing to do.”

Phillips and Coleman, who were expected to start the season in the Panthers’ Intrust Super Premiership team, face a fine similar to Canterbury prop Dylan Napa, or a suspension, but that seems unlikely.

Penrith hope the NRL can have any punishment for May finalised by today and a penalty for Coleman and Phillips settled by the end of the week.

It has been a wretched week for new Panthers coach Ivan Cleary, who has less than two weeks to prepare his players for their season opener against Parramatta on March 17.

Mansour on Monday fronted the media moments before the latest sex tape embarrassment.

“I’ve got nothing to worry about but some people have videos out there that are private and are getting into the wrong hands, so I’d be worried,” Mansour said.

There is no criminal wrongdoing in any of the three tapes involving Penrith players.

Coleman, the son of South Sydney great Craig, was charged — along with Wests Tigers player Zane Musgrove — with indecently assaulting a woman in Coogee in December in an unrelated matter.

The NRL has banned Musgrove from playing until the matter is concluded in court, but Coleman has been permitted to continue. Both players have pleaded not guilty.
