NRL SuperCoach round 13 wrap: James Tedesco, Dylan Edwards, Blaize Talagi among concerns

That’s a wrap for round 13 and unfortunately it was dominated by those three dreaded letters - DNP. We recap a crazy SuperCoach round and reveal the best way forward.

That’s a wrap for round 13 and unfortunately it was dominated by those three dreaded letters - DNP.

Popular SuperCoach stars James Tedesco and Blaize Talagi were among those who failed to take the field, while Dylan Edwards was pulled from Origin camp with a quad injury.

While Edwards was out anyway this week and the injury is only minor (he’s only set to miss 1-2 weeks), SuperCoaches still face a serious decision given he’s owned by almost a quarter of players.

If it’s one week he misses 2/3 rounds and could be a hold.

If it’s a two-week injury he misses three upcoming rounds, with a Penrith bye thrown in. That blows out to 4/6 weeks when looking long-term.

Edwards is the best player in SuperCoach this year by almost 10 points a game so selling is hardly ideal, but probably the only option for overall players.

However, head-to-head players going well in their leagues can afford to wait it out.

WINNERS

* Terrell May (110 pts) - The 10,000 SuperCoaches who sold in round nine are no doubt regretting it. May has scored two tons since then, today’s including a try and nine tackle busts. Got big game time following the injury to Jared Waerea-Hargreaves (hamstring).

* Scott Drinkwater (107 pts) - With six Origin players out, Drinky was the main man for the Cowboys and delivered for a quarter of SuperCoaches, for many as captain. Kicked goals with Valentine Holmes on Queensland duty.

* Sam Walker (91 pts) - Typical Walker performance. Only 17 points in base stats but produced a few moments of brilliance including two try assists and three linebreak assists as one of the most popular purchases of the week.

* Naufahu Whyte (50 pts) - Most popular buy of the week played big minutes and produced a huge work rate. Does he keep the lock spot when Origin players are back? It would be a big call to move him.

* Liam Henry (76 pts) - Plenty of SuperCoaches held just for this week and boy did Henry deliver. After playing as a prop for much of the season, Henry switched to the edge with Origin players out and played 74 minutes.

* Joseph Tapine (106 pts) – The Raiders prop topscored against the Dolphins in a huge 64 minutes. Tapine led his team in runs (22) and tackles (50).

* Danny Levi (69 pts) – The crafty hooker looked like he was close to coming off early in the game but played through the pain and had a big involvement for the visitors. Came off in the second half to give Tom Starling a turn at dummy half.

* Jeremy Marshall-King (82 pts) – Many brought the Dolphins hooker in for the Origin period and they were rewarded with a very active performance. Marshall-King was deadly with the ball and was his side’s second-highest scorer.

* Kaeo Weekes (81 pts) – The young halfback continued his red-hot form and shapes as a perfect Origin downgrade in the halves. Scored a sensational try in the second half.

* Jacob Preston (106 pts) – Two tries and another strong display on an edge. Shapes as a great purchase over the Origin period.

* Reed Mahoney (75 pts) – He was at his niggling best, but also came up with two try assists that helped the Bulldogs kick clear in the second half.

* Josh Curran (74 pts) – Picks up a lot of base points and was rewarded with a lucky bounce that led to a try – but it was his determination that led to the try.

* Will Penisini (95 pts) - Can you believe 33 people dropped the Eels centre from their side this week? A high-range keeper in recent seasons, Penisini more than passed the pub test with his impressive mix of footwork and brute strength.

* Dylan Brown (88 pts) - There were concerns about what the return of Moses and Gutherson would do to Brown’s scoring ability. Have no fears. The five-eighth gun got back to doing what he does best, cutting defences apart with his footwork. 88 points with 30 in base stats, thank you very much.

* Mitch Moses (77 pts) - He might not have had the most points for the game, but Moses left plenty out there after a couple of bombed try opportunities in the second half. He looked sharp and was involved in everything the Eels did well. Better yet he reclaimed the kicking despite his injury and his running game looked good. If the Eels keep up the free-flowing style, get him in.

LOSERS

* James Tedesco (DNP) - Edwards’ injury means Teddy was drafted into NSW camp and therefore didn’t play for the Roosters. Unfortunately almost 9,000 SuperCoaches missed the news and didn’t change their trade. Teddy also misses the upcoming week due to a bye.

* Dylan Edwards (DNP) - Ruled out for the Blues. While the injury is only minor (see above), there’s a real chance he misses 4/6 rounds and potentially more. Definite sell for overall players.

* Blaize Talagi (DNP) - Trent Barrett, you tease. The best cash cow in the game right now was named on the bench and never left it as the Sharks caused a few late headaches. The Eels will struggle to carry an outside back on what is usually a forward heavy bench so there is concern he will struggle to get a chance to improve on his -21 breakeven.

* Sam Hughes (15 pts) – Plenty held just for this round but Hughes played just the 15 minutes. It’s unclear if there’s an injury cloud or that was part of Cameron Ciraldo’s plan.

* Trai Fuller (31 pts) – Many brought Fuller back in this week hoping for a big game from the small fullback but he couldn’t find a way to make an impact due to a rather sickening concussion.

* Brad Schneider (9 pts) – Only single digits from Penrith’s backup half and anyone who looked to Schneider as their half for the Origin period will be regretting it.

* Joey Manu (54 pts) - SuperCoaches were hoping for more after Manu switched to fullback following the injury to Tedesco. Had a try disallowed (correctly) for a double movement.

* Josh Addo-Carr (70 pts) – A real shame this one. Had a brilliant first half with two tries but came off not long after the break with a hamstring injury which will see him miss 8-10 weeks.

* Jesse Bromwich (11 pts) – Scored 11 early points before succumbing to what appeared to be a pectoral injury after only four minutes. The Dolphins captain did not return.

* Simi Sasagi (18 pts) – Early-season cheapie produced a quiet night, finishing well below his projected score.

* Jackson Hastings (21 pts) – Really should’ve made some big plays for the Knights. Will brush it off, but wasn’t a great night for Hastings.

* Daniel Saifiti (6 pts) – Went off with injury towards the end of the first half and there’s an obvious concern if that will impact future games.
