New South Wales want to mimic their successful State Of Origin preparation with similar beach theme for Perth encounter
It worked last time, so why not again? The New South Wales Blues want to replicate their successful Sydney State Of Origin preparation in 2018 — right down to the beach walk — for their clash in Perth next year.
The Blues’ State of Origin preparations will again be a walk in the park as Brad Fittler’s men bid to repeat their series success next year.
NSW want to replicate their successful preparation from Sydney in 2018 for the clash in Perth next year — including similar hotel, similar location, similar walk to the beach and similar walk to training.
And The Daily Telegraph can also reveal NSW will consider flying players to Perth directly after club matches.
The Blues succeeded this year being based outside the Sydney CBD at Coogee’s Crown Plaza and walking to the beach and training at nearby Coogee Oval.

NSW will mimic the same preparation in Perth by staying outside the city at a beachside location, probably Scarborough Beach or maybe Claremont. They will walk to the beach and training.
Everything will be the same. Players won’t know whether they are in Sydney or Perth.
“It’s not concluded yet but we will try a location which allows us to have a preparation as close as we can to the Sydney preparations from last year,” NSWRL chief executive David Trodden said.
“We will try to replicate Sydney so we are likely to stay out of the CBD in one of the beachside suburbs.
“If we stayed there, we would train at one of the locations around there. There are a couple of suitable venues over there like Claremont or Scarborough Beach. The Western Force have a training venue at Claremont.
“Our accommodation would be similar to the Crowne Plaza at Coogee, where the hotel is a walk down the road to the beach.”
Origin I in Brisbane will played on June 5 and Origin II in Perth on June 23, with an NRL round to be contested in between.
Depending on when their club teams play, some players would have a 10-day preparation, others just seven.
With that in mind, the NSWRL will consider flying players straight to Perth after finishing their club games, meaning they would arrive separately rather than as a team.
It would allow players more time in Perth to recover from a five-hour flight and then start game preparations.
“We will try a location which allows us to have a preparation as close as we can to the Sydney preparations from last year,” Trodden said.
