Mal Meninga: Hayne has point to prove

THE NRL says rugby league fans will finally get the venues they deserve after the NSW government confirmed its new stadium program on Friday.

Two new rectangular stadiums will be built at Sydney Olympic Park and Moore Park and CEO Todd Greenberg says the ‘world class’ facilities will help NRL improve crowds.

“Our fans will now have access to three world-class stadia where they can watch anything from Telstra Premiership games through to State of Origin and Grand Finals,” he said in a statement.

“Those games will be held in rectangular venues, purpose built for rugby league with fans able to sit closer to the action than ever before.

“It’s a great result for our clubs, for our fans and for the game.”

As revealed exclusively in The Daily Telegraph on Friday, the NRL grand final will be moved to the SCG while ANZ Stadium is being revamped.

The state government announced plans to knock down and rebuild both venues. The plan includes a rectangular 75,000 seat stadium at ANZ Stadium and a 45,000 seater at Allianz Stadium.
