NRL’s top cop Karyn Murphy makes shock switch to become Gold Coast Titans NRLW coach

The NRL Integrity Unit’s senior investigator, Karyn Murphy, has quit her role in a surprise move that will leave misbehaving NRL stars breathing a sigh of relief.

The NRL’s top cop has quit to head up the Gold Coast Titans’ women’s league program.

Misbehaving players will breathe a sigh of relief after former Jillaroos star Karyn Murphy resigned from the NRL following seven years as the Integrity Unit’s senior investigator.

A former police inspector, Murphy has been tasked with investigating the NRL’s seemingly endless off-field incidents.

Her work has resulted in numerous suspensions and fines being dished out to players and officials.

But Murphy will now return to the football side of the game after taking up a newly-created position at the Titans.

Murphy, who played 27 games for Australia and 20 for Queensland, has been appointed the Titans’ director of female rugby league, which includes the head coach’s role of the club’s NRLW team.

She will replace Jamie Feeney, who guided the Titans to a finals appearance in their first NRLW season, after the club opted to make the job a full-time role.

“Karyn is an icon of our game and someone who is highly respected for what she has achieved and we are thrilled that she will be joining us,” said Titans CEO Steve Mitchell.

“As the only female head coach in NRLW competition, we believe Karyn’s work in this space will inspire new and developing female coaches within the game.

“Karyn will work with our NRLW players when they return to the state league and will support their respective BMD Premiership clubs.

“Having Karyn dedicated full-time to our programs will allow us to grow both our high performance and pathway programs, while also allowing her the time to build strong relationships with our players, our elite youth and their families.

“Karyn will help coordinate and deliver Future Female Titans Academies, the Titans School Girl Cup and work with our rugby league schools of excellence which is crucial in ensuring our pathway programs allow local juniors to progress to NRLW level.”

Murphy has already bolstered her NRLW staff by securing Melbourne Storm great Matt Geyer.
