NRL 2022: Josh Addo-Carr vows to win back NSW Blues jersey

Josh Addo-Carr has vowed to use his dumping from the Blues squad as motivation to bounce back to his best and maintains he has “no regrets” about his switch to the battling Bulldogs.

Dumped winger Josh Addo-Carr has vowed to win back his NSW Blues jersey and play for Australia at the World Cup at the end of the season.

The Bulldogs star says he has recovered from previous setbacks and is determined to do so again.

“You can take these setbacks two ways … you can sulk and let it get you down or you can use it as a motivation to bounce back,” he said.

“I’ve come back from some tough situations before and I know I can do it again.”

Addo-Carr was a controversial omission for the opening game of the series, losing his spot to giant Roosters winger Daniel Tupou because of the threat of an aerial raid from the Maroons halves Daly Cherry-Evans and Cameron Munster.

“It obviously hurts because I love the NSW jersey and I love playing State of Origin,” Addo Carr said. “All I can do is accept Freddy’s decision and work as hard as I can to get back.

“But I’ll be cheering for the boys, I promise you that.”

Addo-Carr made 12 appearances for NSW between 2018 and 2021. Most believe he has paid the penalty for his switch from Melbourne Storm to the struggling Bulldogs.

“This year has been a tough one at the Bulldogs but I have no regrets,” he said.

“There’s still an opportunity for us to play some good footy over the remainder of the season.

“I still haven’t given up hope of getting back in favour and playing for Australia at the World Cup. There’s still a long way to go.”

While the Blues have been in camp preparing for Origin, Addo-Carr has been at Belmore preparing for the Friday night match against the Panthers.

There is talk that coach Mick Potter may give him an opportunity at fullback following the decision to axe Matt Dufty for the game.

Fittler earlier this week described the conversation with Addo-Carr as his hardest as a coach.

“It was a massive decision and something I looked over for weeks and weeks and weeks,” Fittler said. “I just felt it was the best thing for Josh at the moment and for the team.

“It was one of those ones where the team had to come first. I think the wingers we brought in are the best wingers at the moment.”
