Mitchell Moses is set to remain a Parramatta Eel, finally inking a new contract after a long saga.

The Daily Telegraph and Sydney Morning Herald have revealed Moses has finally agreed to the lucrative contract extension which will keep him at Parramatta until the end of the 2028 season.

Newscorp’s Brent Read reported: “Moses informed Parramatta late on Thursday that he would be staying, having agreed terms only hours before he was due to lead his side into battle in the grand final rematch against Penrith at Commbank Stadium.”

He added it’s believed to be a five-year deal, which was believed to be the sticking point the 28-year-old was chasing.

It it is to end the speculation that has surrounded the star playmaker who led the Eels to last season’s decider but has dropped the club’s first three games of the season, with matches against the Panthers and Roosters in the next two rounds.

The report continues that Moses left “close to $1 million on the table by staying at the Eels”.

It means the Eels have locked in a halves combination long-term after Dylan Brown signed a deal which could keep him in blue-and-gold until 2031 if he takes up player options.

It comes after rumours have been flying thick and fast.

It’s been four weeks since the Sydney Morning Herald reported Moses had signed a $1.25m deal to stay at Parramatta but was just the started of it.

The Eels denied the report at the time and said: “an agreement had not been reached”.

It was believed the Tigers were offering between $1.3m and $1.5m over five years while the Eels were reportedly between $1.1m to $1.25m for four.

Moses, who originally said he wanted it all worked out before the season started, consistently deflected questions to his management but it left him open for the rumour mill to continue to turn.

Earlier this week, it was reported by NRL 360’s Paul Kent that the Roosters had entered the chat for the halfback.

Roosters supremo Nick Politis vehemently denied the rumour, saying “We’re not interested” and that there had been “absolutely no discussion around Mitchell Moses”.

It also left Moses open for criticism, slammed Queensland champion Gorden Tallis.

“He hasn’t won – and that’s a winner’s cheque,” Tallis said on NRL 360.

“That’s a (Nathan) Cleary cheque, that’s a State of Origin player. He had a chance to win a grand final (and didn’t).

“If you look at (Allan) Langer and all those great halfbacks that got that money, that are in that realm, they were winners. They were playing Origin and getting the job done.

“This is not a knock on him but the money that he’s asking – you have to get the job done in the first three weeks. That’s really good money.”

It’s hard to blame Moses for pushing for the money, revealing his engagement to long-term partner Bri Gardoni last month, after he missed the birth of their daughter in September as he was playing in the Eels’ preliminary final win over the Cowboys.
