GREG Inglis would welcome a return to the NRL for Jarryd Hayne.
Former Parramatta superstar Hayne announced his decision to quit the NFL on Monday in a bid to play rugby union sevens at the Rio Olympics later this year.
In the process Hayne has opened the door on a possible return to the NRL in 2017, something South Sydney captain Inglis wants to witness.
“There is no doubt he is a great talent, our game is about showcasing great talent, so in the future I would like to see him back in the NRL,” Inglis said on Monday.
“But at the moment he has made his choice about going to rugby union and I wish him all the best of luck.”
Does Inglis think it will happen?
“He obviously wants to go and play in the Olympics but if we (rugby league) can fit him on the books, sure,” Inglis said.
Hayne left the NRL at the end of the 2014 season to join the San Francisco 49ers.
Hayne’s manager Wayne Beavis has refused to rule out the former NRL star returning to rugby league
Asked if a return to the NRL was on the cards for Hayne, Beavis told The Daily Telegraph: “At this stage I don’t know.
“We are going to plan time to consider our options after the Olympics.
“We’ve had that many moving parts that have been moving that quickly that we just haven’t sat down and discussed what it might mean after the Olympics.
“There are on in August and all the registration periods are well and truly expired by then, but we will be looking at 2017 at what we might do.”
